Flexible care acknowledges that the needs of aged care consumers may require a different care approach than those provided through the residential care and home care services. It includes Short Term Restorative Care Programme (STRC), Multi-Purpose Services (MPS) Program, Transition Care Program, and National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Flexible Aged Care (NATSIFAC) Program.

This program is an early intervention to reverse or slow functional decline in older people. Functional decline is when a person is having difficulty performing their day-to-day activities, including bathing, dressing, feeding, shopping or driving. This program provides a range of care and services for up to 8 weeks (56 days) to help prevent or reduce difficulties older people are having with completing everyday tasks. STRC services may be delivered in a home care setting, a residential care setting, or a combination of both. For the Short Term Restorative Care Programme (STRC), other than the subsidy (minimum $207.87 per day), you can charge your clients:
- $10.85 per day if you offer your service in a home care setting (17.5% of the single aged pension).
- $52.71 per day if you offer your service in a residential setting (85% of the single aged pension).
The Multi-Purpose Services Program combines funding for aged care services from the Australian Government with state and territory health services. This joint initiative means small regional and remote communities can offer flexible aged care services that meet the needs of their community. In MPS, similar to residential care, you can roughly earn the following per client:
- Basic fee: $52.71 per day, or $19,239.15 per year
- Means-tested care fee: up to $256.44 per day with the maximum of $28,338.71 per year, or $68,012.98 in a lifetime.
- Accommodation: varies as per your quote – it can be up to $550000
This program helps older people get back on their feet after a hospital stay. It provides short-term care for up to 12 weeks (with a possible 6-week extension), including social work, nursing support, personal care and allied health care. State and territory governments are the approved providers of transition care. The fees are the same as the STRC program. For the Transition Care Program (TCP), other than the subsidy (minimum $207.87 per day), you can charge your clients:
- $10.85 per day if you offer your service in a home care setting (17.5% of the single aged pension).
- $52.71 per day if you offer your service in a residential setting (85% of the single aged pension).
